White home

Three words to describe the Eklunds’ home: white, ordered, easy..

‘Footstools make the kitchen accessible for the children so they can join in with cooking and baking.’

‘We have a calendar everyone writes on. I use pictures, as even before they can read, the children want to know how many days until Grandma comes.’

‘To push the kids’ creativity, we paint a lot. They like to see their work so I made a display using IKEA curtain rails.’

‘The ceiling lamps hang low over our dining table to create a cosy light.’

‘The white mantelpiece used to be black – until just last week when I painted it.’

‘All our sofas and chairs have removable, washable covers making them really easy to clean.’

‘The children’s bedrooms are designed to grow with them and be nice for us parents. A mix of high and low storage, pouches and hangers helps. Along with comfy seating.’

‘Slowly we have stripped away colour. It’s especially important to me. I need order around me – everything in its place. It’s more relaxing that way.’

‘I think books make great practical decorations. On our open bookshelves in our bedroom we have the children’s books on the lower shelves where they can reach them.’

‘I have open shelves in our study – it makes it easy to see something when you are looking for it, and also I like the aesthetic of the clips, pins and odds and ends stored in jars.’

‘Using our walls stops piles on the floor – I have a corridor full of hooks for coats and bags.’

‘What makes our white home work?’
Paula: ‘People think I’m chicken for only using white but I came to this through a process. The more white I added, the calmer I felt. I pick furniture that’s designed to rescue life’s mistakes, everything is washable. And I’m neat. Time is a luxury with four kids, why waste it searching for things? For me chores are life’s little pleasures. I share them with the kids. When they’re small like Ella, 3, and Kalle, 1, being involved is enjoyable. Nils, 11, and Noa, 8, are older and have a different idea of what’s fun!’
Artur: ‘For my wife Paula it’s important that this place is functional, but I love the aesthetic of our white home. It’s so bright it almost feels transparent. I love the feeling of openness – it’s energising.’
Nils: ‘Our home is so WHITE!!!!!!!! I like white, but it would be nice to see some blue or yellow. Life is easier in a tidy house and rules are OK but sometimes they mean I have to do more chores than my younger sister Noa. I like my room best – I enjoy having some space and privacy!’
Noa: ‘I have this great idea to paint my room like the sky – light blue with a yellow sun and white stars. Our home is mega fantastic and the best thing is the huge bed in Mum and Dad’s room. On Saturdays we all sit on the bed and watch movies.’

Jamaica

It's hard to argue with the assertion Jamaicans make that theirs is a blessed island. Little beats simple luxuries like picking a fresh mango from a tree for breakfast, bathing in a crystal clear waterfall, or sitting in the shade to watch the sun climb the sky while hummingbirds flit about on a gentle breeze heavy with the scent of tropical flowers. It's no wonder that for more than a century visitors have come to Jamaica to escape cold northern winters and luxuriate in the island's tropical climate and calm Caribbean waters. Its lush forests and varied topography are dotted with spectacular natural features - caves, white-sand beaches, swimming holes, waterfalls, and majestic mountain peaks - with plenty for adventure seekers to explore. Quaint villages sprinkle the countryside, and Kingston, the country's bustling urban center, is the heart of Jamaica's vibrant culture and spirit.

minakani walls

Minakani is a Paris based studio.
Frédéric Bonnin and Cécile Figuette create patterns, mainly for textile but not exclusively.
They've launched their walldecor line 2 years ago and offer custom size and exclusive motifs printed onto high quality non-woven paper. I would love to decorate my walls with this adorable mosaic wallpaper...pleaaase...

Outstanding Tents!

When I saw the first images of these limited-edition designer tents with their cool flysheets, I had to really stop and think. Is it true that no-one else has manufactured these types of tents for sale before? I have seen individual pieces displayed as art, but I had not seen anything quite like this.

FieldCandy tents do not give you camouflage protection in the natural setting, nor do they help you blend in with the rest of the crowd at the campsite. FieldCandy tents are designed to stand out.

creative workspace

Your workplace and the atmosphere surrounding you determine the way you work and explore your imagination. The more inspirational your workplace is, the easier it is to break the creativity block and discover new ideas. And apparently there is a number of things you can do to improve your personal workflow. I hope you will find inspiration in these creative workspaces. I love them all!

come on in!

Winter shminter. We are warm-weathered souls. I wanted to share these gorgeous photos to start the day on a light, breezy note. It’s easy to get bogged down in cold weather and work this time of year, but these photos remind me of a sunnier time, when the summer air makes just about anything look beautiful floating around.

come on in!

Today I´m so inspired to make one of these beautiful chalkboards. They are ideal for children´s rooms or any other room as well as kitchen. You don´t necessary have to use a wall for a blackboard, you can also apply chalkboard paint on furniture (a door is also great object to turn into a chalkboard). Creating a blackboard wall in your kitchen or any other room is very easy! Most paint manufactures have chalkboard paint in their collection. If you don´t want too much black in your home, you can also use chalkboard paint in other color. Or you can use for instance white chalkboard paint and then write on it with brown crayons.  I love it!

I would write a Love note on mine every morning.. What would you write?
